How does Google ad targeting work?

Google Search Ads target people based on words they type in Google’s search bar. When you create a Google Search Ad, you tell Google you want the ad to show when certain words are used in a search. Those words are called keywords. Google Display Ads target people based on interest, age, gender, parent or nonparent, and income levels. The interest is the most powerful part of the targeting. For example, you can target people interested in grills or people shopping for a new GMC truck.
