What is the California Consumer Privacy Act?

Facebook, Google, and digital companies you have never heard of know everything about us. Everything we click, opt-in to, and scroll past is tracked by these internet giants. After millions and millions of user’s data was sold to companies for targeting, the California legislature took action to stop companies from selling your data without your knowledge. Under the new law, companies must ask for your permission to sell your personal information and your personal tracking data to advertisers. Companies like Facebook have since claimed they are exempt from the law, and a legal battle is now underway.
